Alan Curbishley seems prepared to splash the cash again this summer to improve on his West Ham squad for next season.
Media reports today suggest that Everton's England international Andy Johnson is the latest big-name player to be linked to Upton Park with Curbs thought to be allowed up to £18 million to try to sign the striker.
However Everton have been quick to quash the rumours, saying Johnson is not for sale.
If a bid for the former Crystal Palace man fails, Jermaine Defoe could be set for a surprise move back to east London after falling out of favour at Tottenham.
And Charlton striker Darren Bent is another man on the fringe of the England squad who may look to further his bid for a place in Steve McClaren's squad with regular first-team football in the Premiership.
Manchester United are also at the centre of a certain amount of transfer gossip.
After shelling out an estimated £35 million already this summer it seems the latest news is of players wanting to escape the confines of Old Trafford. Gabriel Heinze seems set to depart this summer, with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona looking to be on a collision course for the Argentinean international's signature.
Newcastle seem to have failed in their attempt to hang onto crowd favourite Antoine Sibierski, with the player being linked to a move to Bolton Wanderers.
Meanwhile, one current Bolton striker seems set to stay at the Reebok.
Nikolas Anelka's comments last week that he would find it hard to turn down a move to Manchester United seem ill-advised after Trotters chairman David Gartside said he had spoken to United chief executive David Gill, who is "not interested" in the Frenchman.
