While the row over the future of Arsenal captain Thierry Henry rumbles on, Arsene Wenger is planning to bring the Frenchman's international team-mate and close friend David Trezeguet to north London.
But although new Juventus manager Claudio Ranieri has accepted £5 million-rated Trezeguet's future lies away from Turin, the former Chelsea boss would prefer to offer the striker in a swap deal for Liverpool's Peter Crouch.
Wenger could instead turn to Ajax's Dutch starlet Ryan Babel, who can also play on the left-wing.
Steve Bruce has accepted defeat in his bid for Diomansy Kamara, but the Birmingham manager is not prepared to give up on his West Brom team-mate Jason Koumas, with the Baggies holding out for a £5 million fee.
Middlesbrough are still interested in Kamara however, with Gareth Southgate prepared to use wingers James Morrison and Adam Johnson as bait to land the Senegalese forward.
Turkish striker Tuncay Sanli will become Boro chairman Steve Gibson's first "spectacular" signing of the summer when he joins from Fenerbache on a free transfer.
Alan Curbishley will be reunited with former Charlton charge Darren Bent after the Addicks accepted an £18 million bid for the one-time England man.
But the hefty fee means interested suitors in Carlos Tevez will have to stump up at least double that to land the Argentinean's services.
In a couple of more down-to-earth deals, Charlton's Dennis Rommedahl is heading for Rennes, with former Chelsea and Birmingham full-back Mario Melchiot leaving the French outfit to join Wigan.
And Preston's David Nugent looks set to join Roy Keane at Sunderland after Everton's interest in the England striker cooled.
