No sooner have Bolton Wanderers sold on their biggest star than they are being linked with replacements.
The news that Nicolas Anelka has agreed a move to Chelsea today has prompted a number of striker to be touted as potential replacements.
Toulouse forward Johann Elmander is one possible stand-in that may join Gary Megson's outfit.
While former Trotters favourite Eidur Gudjohnsen - who is now at Barcelona via Chelsea - is also being linked with a return after failing to command a first-team place at the Nou Camp.
Ajax striker Klass-Jan Huntelaar may also be the subject of bids from a number of English clubs this month after another season with his shooting boots on.
The Dutch international has scored 16 goals in the Eredivisie this season and is the league's top scorer, making him a transfer target for Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, despite his self-declared reluctance to enter the market this month.
One club making no such promises are Juande Ramos' Tottenham Hotspur.
The north London outfit are being linked with another Ajax star, goalkeeper Maarten Stekenburg, as a replacement for out-of-favour number one Paul Robinson, who has been associated with a bid from Bolton Wanderers or Arsenal.
Ramos could also make a move to sign former Spurs striker Freddie Kanoute from his old club in Spain, Sevilla.
