Even with the current shortage of goals recently, it does not quite seem like Sir Alex Ferguson to be making panic buys.
Yet rumours abound today that the Manchester United great is set to splash out another £10 million on signing prolific Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka.
United's depleted forward line is currently without Wayne Rooney, Louis Saha and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Cristiano Ronaldo is also out injured, which all equates to a Red Devils team lacking their usual cutting edge.
And fans were left less than happy at being second best to local rivals Manchester City yesterday.
Sven-Goran Eriksson, who masterminded that derby win, is still on the lookout for a goalkeeper, despite Kasper Schmeichel's impressive displays so far between the sticks.
His three clean sheets have not yet convinced Eriksson that he is the answer to the long-term problem in the first team and he is still eyeing up Bolton's Jussi Jaaskelainen as a temporary solution.
Derby have been told they will need to part with a club-record £6 million if they are to sign Southampton star Kenwyne Jones before the transfer window closes.
And Yakubu's proposed move from Middlesbrough to Everton looks to have collapsed after talks over the Nigerian's wage demands fell through.
