Queens Park Rangers' defender Anton Ferdinand has allegedly received a threatening package in the run-up to his team's FA Cup face off with Chelsea today (Saturday January 28th).
The Mirror reported that Ferdinand received a package that contained a threatening letter, as well as a high-calibre airgun pellet, at his QPR's Loftus Road stadium.
As a result of the delivery – the latest in a series of hate mail targeted at London-born centre back – the police have been consulted, according to a source.
The insider explained: "The threat came addressed to Anton, an object which left him in no doubt that it was a threat. He has had so many threats, many of them death threats, that he has been told not to open any of his mail in the past two or three weeks.
They added: "It's being taken seriously enough for officials from both clubs to be called to the police station to discuss the matter further."
A Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed that the force was investigating a "malicious communication" received at the club.
Today is the first time Anton Ferdinand will face John Terry since the Chelsea captain directed a racist slur towards the defender during Ocotober's Barclays Premier League fixture between the London clubs.
