Mario Ballotelli has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association after he appeared to stamp on Scott Parker.

The incident happened during Manchester City's 3-2 win over Tottenham on Sunday (22nd January), with the 21-year-old Italian scoring a stoppage-time penalty to take the three points.

Having already been dismissed this season, Balotelli faces a four-match ban if he is found guilty.

City defender Joleon Lescott has not been charged following a clash with Younes Kaboul in which he appeared to catch the Spurs player in the face with his forearm in a separate incident.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp expressed his anger at the Balotelli incident, claiming that the striker "blatantly" stamped on Parker's head and should have been sent off at the time.

BBC pundits Lee Dixon and Alan Hanson were split, with the latter agreeing with Redknapp but Dixon claiming that Balotelli should be given the benefit of the doubt.
