Joey Barton has attacked former Queens Park Rangers boss Neil Warnock in a series of scathing posts on Twitter.
The outspoken midfielder reacted after Warnock suggested conversations between Rangers owner Tony Fernandes and players on the social networking site had led to his dismissal. The 63-year-old was sacked last week and replaced by Mark Hughes.
However, Barton described Warnock's claims as "embarrassing" and implored him to "look in the mirror".
"Twitter cost him his job? I can think of a million other things," the former Newcastle United and Manchester City player tweeted.
Barton also used a hashtag to compare Warnock to fictional boss Mike Bassett, the hapless England manager played by Ricky Tomlinson.
He went on to describe his club's remaining Premier League games as "17 cup finals" as QPR aim to ensure their top-flight survival. The west London side face fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic at Loftus Road today.
Barton, who signed a four-year deal at QPR after leaving Newcastle last summer, was made club captain by Warnock.
