David Beckham has revealed that he wants to captain the Great Britain football team at this year's Olympic Games.
The LA Galaxy midfielder recently signed a new contract with the Major League Soccer side, with part of the deal being that he can play in the event, which takes place in London this summer.
Speaking to the BBC, the 36-year-old said that being able to lead his country in the Games would be special, and it is something that he would "love to do".
Beckham was a key member of the team that helped secure the Olympics for the capital in Singapore in 2005, and is one of 184 players contacted by the Football Association to have indicated their ability for the squad.
He also thanked LA Galaxy's owners AEG and coach Bruce Arena for agreeing to give him time away from the club.
Ryan Giggs also stated that he will be available for the Olympic squad this summer.
