Spurs handed Newcastle clash for Carling Cup third round

Carling Cup holders Spurs drawn away to Newcastle United
Carling Cup holders
Tottenham Hotspur have been drawn away to
Newcastle United for the third round of this year's competition.
Spurs will travel to the north-east in late September to begin their defence of the trophy, while
Chelsea, their vanquished foes in the 2008 final, will travel to the south coast to face
Portsmouth.
Manchester United have also been handed an all-Premier League tie, having been handed a home clash against
Middlesbrough, and
Everton face a short north-west journey to play
Blackburn Rovers.
Manchester City must overcome League One side Brighton in a replay if they are to face the Championship's
Derby County while
Liverpool,
Aston Villa and
Sunderland will all face lower division opposition in the form of Crewe Alexandra, Queens Park Rangers and Northampton, respectively.
The ties will be played the week commencing September 22nd.
