Portsmouth's woes look set to continue after former Scotland international Gary McAllister rejected the chance to be Paul Hart's assistant at the south-coast club.
Earlier reports had suggested McAllister was set to be named as assistant manager at Pompey, after the former Leicester and Leeds midfielder rejected a similar role with George Burley's Scotland last week.
McAllister previously told Portsmouth daily The News: "I'm coming down for a chat but I can't say anything more than that at the moment.
"Things might become a bit clearer soon but I am going to have to leave it at that for now."
However the talks between the two parties have broken down and manager Paul Hart has spoken of his disappointment.
"We couldn't agree anything. He was the man I wanted, so it's disappointing," Hart said.
Portsmouth currently sit at the foot of the Premier League table after losing their first seven fixtures of the campaign and are currently searching for an assistant manager following Brian Kidd's departure during the summer.
