Championship side Nottingham Forest have signed former England international Nicky Shorey on loan from Midland rivals Aston Villa until the end of the year.
The 28-year-old has started just 22 games for Villa since joining from Reading for an undisclosed fee in August 2008.
His future at Villa Park was thrown into doubt by the signing of Blackburn Rovers left-back Stephen Warnock in August.
Forest manager Billy Davies said: "We're delighted - there's no doubting the lad's ability and what he's done in his career.
"I've admired him since his days at Reading and followed his progression through to the national side. Nicky is a fantastic addition to the squad."
Shorey began his career as a trainee at Leyton Orient before moving on to play for Reading, where he won his two international caps.
The full-back is likely to make his Forest debut in the home game against Doncaster on Saturday as a replacement for the suspended Chris Cohen.
Davies added: "He is a natural full-back.
"With the loss of Chris Cohen and going into these winter months, it was important that we do have some good cover.
"We're fortunate he's out of contention at Aston Villa."
