Khan was beaten inside the first round against Prescott
Amir Khan has been defeated for the first time in his career after suffering a first round knockout against Colombian Breidis Prescott.

Prescott won the intercontinental lightweight belt from Khan in just 54 seconds, leaving the crowd at the MEN Arena in Manchester stunned.

Both fighters were unbeaten heading into the contest but it was Prescott that finished on top with a comprehensive victory.

Khan's defensive skills have been questionable in the past after he was sent to the canvas by three previous opponents and Prescott was able to expose the Bolton fighter again in this bout.

The Colombian connected with a fearsome left hook which sent Khan reeling. Prescott then stepped in and landed another good shot to put Khan on the floor.

The Briton took an eight count before resuming the bout. However, he still looked shaken and sensing this Prescott moved in to finish the fight.

After a flurry of punches Khan was sent to the canvas for a second time but on this occasion he could not beat the ten-count.

Khan said he still felt he could become a world champion but admitted he would "have to go back to the drawing board" following the defeat.

He told Sky Box Office: "I'm fine. I need to go back to the drawing board and put it right. I'm going to come back and I'm going to come back stronger."

In an earlier fight England's Nicky Cook beat Scotland's Alex Arthur on points to claim the WBO super-featherweight title.

While British heavyweight Audley Harrison was victorious as he attempts to make another comeback, beating Brazilian George Arias on points.
