Younis Khan has offered his resignation as captain of the Pakistan cricket team, according to reports coming from the Pakistan media.
The 31-year-old batsman is reported to have offered his resignation during a meeting held by the National Assembly standing committee on sports, where he had been asked to appear following match-fixing allegations against New Zealand and Australia during this month's Champions Trophy in South Africa.
Khan said at the start of the meeting: "I tender my resignation and if captains are summoned like this, no one will be eager to lead the Pakistan team."
Khan later confirmed to the Reuters news agency that he had handed in his resignation, saying: "Yes I have submitted my resignation because I am disgusted by these match-fixing allegations made against me and the team.
"I have told the chairman to go through my resignation and read my point of view."
Ijaz Butt, chairman of the PCB, said: "At this stage I can only say if he sticks to his decision then his resignation would be discussed by the governing council of the board at its next meeting on October 19th."
Pakistan coach Intikhab Alab has also spoken about Khan's resignation, blaming the Indian media for raking up the controversy.
He said: "It was an emotional decision on the part of Younis Khan to tender his resignation.
"It was a propaganda by Indian media. We have rejected match-fixing allegations in the meeting."
