Britain's Kelly Sotherton is in third place in the heptathlon after day one of the competition finished in Beijing.
The 31-year-old is behind Team USA's Hyleas Fountain (4060) and Nataliya Dobrynska of Ukraine (3996) on 3938 points.
Sotherton, who won bronze in Athens, said she was disappointed with her opening day performance, despite setting two personal best times.
"I'm really gutted," he said. "I'm in much better shape that that. I'm disappointed with the whole day. Maybe it's because it's my first heptathlon of the year."
Sotherton failed to make an impact with the shot in the afternoon but bounced back with a personal best of 23.39 seconds in the 200m.
But she failed to beat Fountain on any event in the morning session, despite another personal best in the 100m hurdles and a solid high jump.
Tomorrow Sotherton must contend with her weakest event the javelin the long jump and the 800m finale.
