At least six people are reported to have been killed in a drive-by shooting at a church in southern Egypt, local officials have claimed.
The half a dozen Coptic Christians were killed as worshippers left the church in Naj Hammadi after a midnight mass on Coptic Christmas Eve on Wednesday.
Reports suggest a car pulled up outside the church and opened fire on the crowd.
The attack is said to be revenge for the rape of a 12-year-old Muslim girl by Christian men in the town back in November.
Clashes in the region have broken out following the drive-by shooting with more than 2,000 Christian Copts clashing with police.
Those behind the attack are said to have been identified by police but no arrests have been made.
The church's Bishop Kirollos said there had been threats in the days leading up to the Christmas Eve service.
