The funeral of former England manager Sir Bobby Robson has taken place today.

Sir Bobby was laid to rest at a private family ceremony in the north-east of England, reports claim.

The football legend died on Friday after losing a long-fought battle with cancer having previously fought off the disease four times.

As well as managing the national team, Sir Bobby took charge of both Newcastle United and Ipswich Town during his decorated career and became a hero at both clubs.

An estimated 15,000 people paid their respects to the former manager at St James' Park over the weekend, with fans leaving wreaths and scarves in his memory.

A statement from his family said they were overwhelmed with the public's tributes and grateful for the fact their privacy had been respected.

A public thanksgiving service to honour Sir Bobby is expected to be announced in due course.
