Alan Shearer has admitted that "time is running out" for his Newcastle United side to climb out of the relegation zone after last night's 0-0 draw with Portsmouth.
Shearer was able to start with all three of his main frontline strikers - Michael Owen, Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins for the first time since taking over.
But all three were guilty of missing chances in a game that was billed as a 'must-win' by the manager.
And afterwards, Shearer said: "Time is running out, we know it.
"We need a win to kick-start a bit of momentum."
The Magpies face a tough match away at second-placed Liverpool next.
And although Shearer optimistically predicted his team "might get something at Anfield", he admitted that the home games against Middlesbrough and Fulham would be the key fixtures.
"We have two home games we need to take six points from," he continued.
"I think it will go to the final game of the season."
