Directed by Michael Patrick King, out 28th May, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, running time 148 minutes .
In a nutshell...
Love, friendship and fabulous fashions.
What's it all about?
Picking up from where we left Carrie et al when the television series ended in 2004, this film revisits the New York columnist and her three best girlfriends to see where their lives have taken them in the last few years.
Hanging out with the fifth character, the city of New York, the girls and their accessories share heartache and laughter, whilst debuting all new outfits from the wardrobes that they are famous for.
As we follow each character's story, questions aplenty arise as we finally get to find out whether they all get their own (very different) idea of a happy ending.
Who's in it?
The film reunites Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, the four main actors best known for their parts in Sex and the City, which ran for six television series. Following the same format as the original show, Sarah Jessica Parker continues her role as executive producer, and Michael Patrick King as director.
Chris Noth leads the male cast as Mr Big, joining Jason Lewis who plays Samantha's love interest, Evan Handler who stars as Charlotte's husband and David Eigenberg, Miranda's significant other.
Dreamgirls' Jennifer Hudson joins the cast as Carrie's personal assistant and a mention must be given to stylist Patricia Field who is responsible for the eagerly awaited catwalk qualities of the movie.
As an example...
"I didn't know if it was the fashion or the fact that the four of us were together again, but I felt the most like myself in a very long time."
Likelihood of a trip to the Oscars
Absolutely, if the Oscar panel are Manolo-wearing, Carrie Bradshaw fanatics. Otherwise, the main audience will be its adoring and ever loyal SATC followers.
What the others say
"It was coarse, sentimental, and outrageously materialistic - just as we hoped and expected it would be." - Telegraph.
"It may not be perfect but it is very much a funny, emotional movie that captures all the glamour and heartbreak that made Sex and the City such a phenomenon on TV." - Rolling Stone
"Just like any great night out with best friends, Sex and the City: The Movie is awash with so much love that it lingers long after the last cocktail runs dry." - New York Daily News.
So is it any good?
This film excels itself with the joy, tears and heart-felt emotion that the series is best known for. SATC fans are lured in to find out what happens to their beloved characters, and the script does not disappoint. Shocks are guaranteed, with the extensive press coverage not spoiling any of the suspense or plot lines.
Each friend's life is explored in definitive style, satisfying all those Carries, Charlottes, Mirandas and Samanthas out there, paying homage to the individual qualities and attributes that all four women bring to the story.
Bejewelled with awe-inspiring garments galore, the audience's appetite for fabulousness and frolics is fulfilled in this feature length picture and final edition of our favourite fashionistas.
