India batsman Virender Sehwag has been axed from the Test squad to tour England later this summer.
The 28-year-old, along with many of his colleagues, has struggled in recent months and is the highest-profile victim of the recent shake-up.
"Sehwag has been left out due to his poor form, he needs to sort out his batting in domestic cricket to earn a recall," said chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar.
There is a chance that the right-hander could earn a recall for the series of seven one-day matches, but the coach-less side are now committed to finding an opening Test pair from the trio of Dinesh Karthik, Wasim Jaffer and Gautam Gambhir.
Spinner Harbhajan Singh's time in the wilderness has been extended as he failed to earn a return to the squad after being dropped for the recent series against Bangladesh.
Ramesh Power and Anil Kumble will be the duo attempting to extract turn from English wickets.
But Vengsarkar refused to shut the door on either Sehwag or Singh with a promise that their domestic form would be carefully monitored.
"Both of them are fine cricketers, they can force their way back into the national squad through consistent performances," he said.
The one uncapped player to make the trip is Bengal's medium-pace man Ranadeb Bose.
