Former Great Britain skipper Paul Sculthorpe could come out of international retirement to play for England in the World Cup this year.
Sculthorpe quit the international stage last season in order to extend his club career with St Helens. But now the 30-year-old says he could return if he was to get back to full fitness and top form.
The loose-forward is currently recovering from an Achilles injury, and has had problems with his knee and ankle which have seen him play very little rugby in the last two seasons.
"You never know - it would be great to put myself into contention [for England]," said Sculthorpe. "If I played at that level I would have to be fully fit and at my best.
"That was one of the reasons why I stepped down as Great Britain skipper. I had struggled for two years and I did not think it was right being captain and not playing.
"My immediate thoughts are to get myself back to top form and fitness with my club, but I would never say never."
Sculthorpe has been one of the stars of the Super League ever since he joined St Helens in 1998. He has won an incredible four Grand Finals, three Challenge Cups, and two World Club Challenges with the Saints.
St Helens have awarded their former captain with a testimonial against Wakefield, which will take place at Knowsley Road on February 2nd.
