Scotland fly-half Dan Parks bemoaned his side's inability to take their opportunities as they crashed to their third defeat of the Six Nations at the hands of Italy.
A 67th minute try from Fabio Canavosio condemned Scotland to their 9th loss in a row on the road in the competition as they went down 16-12 at the Stadio Flaminio.
Parks said: "I don't know why but we had our chances and didn't take them - they had one chance and they took it.
"We came here expecting to do well on the back of performance last time, it was good in parts but very we're disappointed.
Parks, who was named man of the match, grabbed all his side's points in their 16-12 loss at the Stadio Flaminio but couldn't engineer a five-pointer although Scotland, through prop Allan Jacobsen, were twice denied by the video referee.
"We had a few scrums on the line and a line-out, teams are scoring at those opportunities, but we didn't."
Meanwhile, Italy second-row Marco Bortolami was delighted with his side's win which came off the back of a strong performance against England a fortnight ago.
The win was Italy's first in eight Six Nations matches and the forward was full of praise for his teammates.
He said: "That was a massive win for us. We fight every week against better teams but we deserved to win.
"We were very close to England but they didn't make any mistakes - here, we beat a good team. Our defence was good today, this is a major win for Italy - every Italian gave 100% today, that's why it's a great win."
