The Met Office has claimed that the coming summer is expected to be a 'typical British summer'.
Long-range forecasts issued today suggest that the UK will experience warmer than average summer temperatures.
Rainfall will be around average levels for the three months of summer this year.
The Met Office announced in a statement that exceptional rainfall, as experienced last summer leading to widespread flooding throughout Britain, remained a "very low probability".
Rob Varley, government services director at the Met Office said: "Our long-range forecasts are proving useful to a range of people, such as emergency planners and the water industry, in order to help them plan ahead. They are not forecasts which can be used to plan a summer holiday or inform an outdoor event."
Head of Forecasting at the Met Office, Brian Golding, said: "Seasonal forecasting is a difficult thing to do and this places some limitations on our forecasts. Our predictions for last autumn, winter and spring have all given accurate advice, giving more confidence in our latest summer forecast."
Last summer, widespread flooding was experienced throughout the UK during June and July.
Thousands of businesses, tens of thousands of homes and up to a million people were affected by the floods.
