Met Office experts give Madonna helping hand

Madonna will be the start turn at the London concert
If Madonna and her fellow Live Earth performers need expert advice on climate change this weekend then Britain's Met Office will be on hand.

Climate change scientists Dr Richard Betts and Dr Matt Huddleston have been tasked with giving advice to the stars at all eight concerts.

And Dr Betts will be at the London concert, where Madonna is performing alongside Genesis, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Black Eyed Peas among others, to give any last-minute guidance.

Dr Huddleston, meanwhile, will brief the BBC's batch of presenters, including Jonathon Ross, about climate change matters so they are all well-versed in the wider issues on the agenda during the broadcaster's live coverage.

The Live Earth concerts have been set up to raise global awareness about the risks of climate change and will attract millions of fans in New York, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hamburg, as well as London's Wembley Stadium.

"We are hugely grateful to [Dr Betts] and the Met Office for providing us with the expert scientific advice which is so integral to Live Earth," Marianne Troup, general manager for Live Earth UK, said.

"From artist briefings on the day to providing the brains behind the 'ask a climate expert' service on the Live Earth website, we have been fully supported."

The Live Earth concerts were originally conceived by former US vice president and environmental campaigner Al Gore.
