Michael Schumacher will make his first appearance at a Formula One race since his retirement at the end of last season at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.

The German is now an advisor to the Ferrari team and he is expected to sit on the pit wall during Sunday's race however his role will be limited.

Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm told German newspaper Bild: "He might sit on the pit wall, but Michael does not want to interfere with the racing. His only function will be advisory."

Filipe Massa welcomed the news that his former team-mate will be in attendance and is keen to show the seven-time champion that he has learnt from their time together at Ferrari.

"I'm very happy about it, and he will surely be able to give us an extra boost and enthusiasm," Massa said.

"Personally, I owe Michael a lot. In the year we were together he taught me many things. I've improved also thanks to him and I'll do my best to show him that."

Massa came third in last season's drivers' championship and feels he is in a position to improve on that result this year.

He said: "The world title is my objective, and I think I have the car to win it."

Massa is currently fourth in the drivers' standings, five points behind joint leaders Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton, and is keen to close the gap at Barcelona.
