Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has been ruled out for two-and-a-half months after suffering knee ligament damage against Aalborg last night.
The former England international, 33, was stretchered off after just 16 minutes of United's 3-0 Champions League victory in Denmark.
And scans later revealed the extent of the problem, which is likely to keep him out until December.
Fellow veteran Ryan Giggs was Scholes' replacement in the Aalborg Stadion last night and he did not disappoint - setting up Wayne Rooney's opener with a superb through ball.
But Ferguson will be hoping to have Scholes' creative talents back on the field sooner rather than later this year, with a critical few games coming up at the end of November - including Premier League trips to Aston Villa and Manchester City, and Villarreal in the Champions League.
