Ramnaresh Sarwan hit 291 as the West Indies tormented England's bowlers on day four of the fourth Test in Barbados.
Sarwan hit his career best score as the home side declared on 749-9, a first innings lead of 149.
Graeme Swann was the pick of the bowlers with 5-165 but that will provide little consolation for the tourists.
Having started the day with hopes of victory and squaring the series, Sarwan and centurion Denesh Ramdin piled on the misery for England's bowlers.
Sarwan brought up his double hundred off 297 balls, which included 21 boundaries and two sixes.
After having an lbw referral go in his favour Sarwan moved on to 227, the third highest score at the Kensington Oval, while Ramdin brought up his 50.
The Windies passed their next milestone of 500 before Sarwan brought up his 250 after pulling the ball for two runs off Paul Collingwood.
Despite England taking up the new ball again, their prospects did not improve after lunch with Ramdin bringing up his first Test ton.
The breakthrough finally came when Sarwan edged a delivery from Ryan Sidebottom onto his stumps, just nine short of his triple century.
But the tourists' hopes of a collapse evaporated as Jerome Taylor smashed six boundaries and three sixes to move the Windies past England's total.
Taylor eventually fell for 53 when he was bowled by spinner Swann to put the Windies on 672-7.
Suliemann Benn was the next to go after edging a delivery from James Anderson to Tim Ambrose for 14. Ramdin was eventually dismissed by Swann for 166 before the Windies put England out of their misery by declaring.
England survived the last two overs of the day and reached 6-0 at stumps, knowing a draw is the best result they can hope for.
