Saracens shocked Wasps with a 13-12 win at Vicarage Road as a solo try from Thomas Castaignede made the difference.
The French wing, whose form saw him picked for France in the Six Nations this year, danced through six Wasps tacklers to score.
Wasps probably edged the game but the Sarries defence held firm in the face of a Wasps onslaught in the second half.
They had won 12 of the previous 13 meetings between the sides and should have extended that favourable record.
But the team who have won the last three Premiership crowns could not make the breakthrough and only managed four penalties from Mark Van Gisbergen.
They also had to watch as Matt Dawson, who recently announced his retirement from rugby, limped off the field with an ankle injury.
Wasps did move up to second place in the table, above London Irish, after earning a bonus point.
Saracens' fourth successive Premiership victory since the arrival of former Australia coach Eddie Jones has taken them a step closer to securing a Heineken Cup place next season.
But the defeat for Wasps could have serious implications for their hopes of finishing in the top two and guaranteeing a home semi-final in the end-of-season play-offs.
