Sale stave off Northampton

Sale Sharks have finished the regular season with a tight 36-34 win over Northampton as they prepare for the play-offs.
Sale took a commanding 26-3 lead but Saints fought back powerfully with tries by Carlos Spencer, Reihana, Daniel Brown, David Quinlan and Ben Cohen.
The Sharks continued their fine form by stepping a up a gear when Northampton were approaching them. Oriol Ripol touched down to rubber stamp another Sale victory.
The brilliant Tom Varndell was on the scoresheet once again as Leicester secured second place and a home semi-final for the play-offs.
The Tigers won 32-3 in a crushing defeat of Bristol. Varndell was joined by try scorers George Chuter, Alesana Tuilagi and Michael Holford.
London Irish will face Leicester in that semi-final and they warmed up for the daunting trip with a 30-18 win over Saracens.
Delon Armitage and Topsy Ojo got two tries each for Irish in the hard fought win. Sarries tries by Dan Harris and Thomas Castaignede were not enough.
Johnny Wilkinson found form in his first start in his latest comeback, kicking six conversions as Newcastle romped to a 54-19 win over Leeds.
Bath battled to a 25-22 win over Worcester with tries by Zak Feaunati, Joe Maddock and Michael Stephenson.
