Actor and comedian Russell Brand has said he found the public furore that erupted over prank calls made to veteran thespian Andrew Sachs "funny".
Brand resigned from his Radio 2 show over the incident while Jonathan Ross was suspended for three months after the pair left offensive voicemails for the Fawlty Towers actor.
Thousands complained over the calls - with the subsequent row soon dubbed "Sachsgate" in the media - but 34-year-old Brand has now said the outcry that followed the original voicemails was "rhubard and guff".
"I apologise for the thing I did wrong to the person I did it to but the whole subsequent scandal was funny," he said at a DVD signing in London.
Brand, currently dating US singer Katy Perry, also defended fellow stand-up comics Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr, who have recently been criticised for seemingly contentious material.
"I've heard them jokes, they're good jokes they are," he said.
"Frankie Boyle is brilliant and Jimmy Carr is brilliant. They're not trying to be offensive, no one is actually offended, the people saying they're offended aren't actually offended, the whole thing is constructed."
