Australian Dixon will step down from his role after Sunday's match with Castleford Tigers and, according to a statement released by the Crusaders, will return to his home country. It had been expected that he would take on a directorial role at the club. Since arriving at the club from Brisbane Broncos, Dixon has overseen a meteoric rise for Celtic. In 2007 they emerged from National League Two and a year later achieved promotion to the Super League for the 2009 season. However, things have been far from comfortable at Rugby League's top table; the team have registered just three wins from their 26 games and are certain to collect the wooden spoon. "I am disappointed to be leaving but I respect the chairman's right to bring change," said Dixon. "I would like to thank all the players, staff, and the very loyal band of supporters who I feel have all played integral roles in the successes that the club has achieved over the last four years. "I acknowledge that the first year in Super League has been difficult. I would like to wish the club every success in the future and I am pleased to state that the development structures are now in place that will help ensure the long-term sustainability of the club and rugby league in Wales." Crusaders chairman Leighton Samuel added: "John has played a major role in getting the club to Super League and put down a development structure which should see the club benefit in the years to come. He has at all times been an excellent ambassador for the club and everyone would like to wish he and his wife Helen, all the best for the future." The move is expected to pave the way for the appointment of former Great Britain coach Brian Noble, who is out of contract at Wigan at the end of the season.
