The fall-out from England's dismal defeat at the hands of Croatia continues with Wayne Rooney attempting to limit any offence caused in an alleged incident with an England fan after the loss.
As the England players were heading for the team bus after the game in Zagreb a group of travelling supporters voiced their opinion on the Three Lions' performance causing the volatile Manchester United youngster to react.
"Any gesture Wayne may have made was directed to one, and only one, particular England fan, whose behaviour towards him appalled the other England players who saw it and horrified the rest of the England fans," said the player's agent Ian Monk.
"Wayne has total respect for England fans. He accepts and understands their disappointment at last night's result," he continued.
Out-of-form Rooney missed England's best chance of the game, blazing over the bar while the scores were still level.
It was not the first time that some sections of the England support have been involved in rows with their star players.
In the aftermath of England's Euro 2000 capitulation to Portugal captain David Beckham reacted angrily to what was termed "highly personal" abuse.
