Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed it is "flattering" to be wanted by both Manchester United and Real Madrid as he looks set to complete a move to Spain this summer.
It was revealed yesterday that United had agreed to sell the Portuguese winger to Madrid for a world-record fee of £80 million.
And speaking from Los Angeles, where he is currently on holiday, Ronaldo described the deal as "historic".
"It's flattering when two of the top teams in the world want you to play for them," he told American broadcaster Fox Sports.
"The deal is historic - £80m is quite a sum of money.
"I learned about the deal here in LA and have heard from my people that Manchester United have accepted."
Ronaldo also allayed fears that any deal between the two clubs could fall through because he needs surgery on a hernia problem.
"I do not require surgery. The hernia is nothing to worry about," he continued.
"However, I have been told that Madrid want to have a medical team look at me as expected."
Rumours are also emerging that a deal that would see Ronaldo move to the Bernabeu was already in place last summer after the two clubs agreed a pre-contract agreement to complete the transfer this year.
Former Real president Ramon Calderon and former manager Juande Ramos have both suggested they knew a deal was in the offing following protracted negotiations several months ago.
