Manchester United's Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo is in talks to extend his current deal at the club, according to reports.
In an interview with Portuguese radio station Antena 1, the 22-year-old revealed that his agent has been involved in discussions with the Old Trafford money men regarding a new deal that would tie him down beyond his current contract, which expires in 2010.
"We have talked and I hope to reach an agreement as soon as possible but nothing has been decided yet," Ronaldo said. "I would like to stay."
However, the Portuguese international repeated his wish that he would like to play in La Liga at some point in his career.
"Everyone knows I really like Spain, that I would like to play in Spain one day, but I am happy here at Manchester," Ronaldo said.
"If I don't leave now, if I leave in two, three, four or five years, I would be happy - I am at a great club."
Speculation had been rife earlier this year that the young winger, United's top scorer this season with 16 goals, could be the subject of multi-million pound bids from two of Spain's biggest clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
However, the player, his agent and several members of the Old Trafford coaching staff, including manager Sir Alex Ferguson himself, sought to rubbish such claims, stating that Ronaldo is perfectly happy where he is, for the time being at least.
