Roma recovered from going a goal down to beat Real Madrid 2-1 in an exciting Champions League tie.
A goal in the eighth minute by Raul left Real in the lead with the Spanish champions dominating possession throughout the match.
An equaliser within the first quarter drew Roma up to level via a strike from David Pizarro when the ball was left loose by Real.
They gained their advantage with a goal in the second half by Mancini, maintaining it until the end of the first leg of their Champion's league tie.
Mancini's run saw him sneak behind Fabio Cannavaro; then taking the ball round Iker Casillas to hit the back of the net from a wide angle.
Reports from the Italian media of a Real Madrid fan being stabbed before the match will have resulted in a worse evening for the La Liga winners.
Meanwhile in Germany, Schalke emerged with a 1-0 home victory over Porto in their Champions League tie.
A missed cross from Rafinha towards goal left Kevin Kuranyi to pound the ball home in the fourth minute.
The team continued to dominate throughout the first half and will no doubt be disappointed the score did not reflect it.
Porto came back in the second half producing more pressure and opportunities, but Raul Meireles' cross was met by a lost opportunity from Lisandro Lopez who mishandled the ball.
