Andy Roddick blasted past Florian Mayer in just one hour and nine minutes to set up a potential third round match with Andy Murray.
Roddick took the game in straight sets 6-4 6-1 6-2. Mayer barely knew what had hit him as the number three seed charged into the next round and attempts to go one better than his runner-up medals in the past two years.
The world number five struggled in his first round match but looked in ominous form as British fans looked forward to "A-Rod" meeting Murray if he moves past Julien Benneteau in the morning.
Leyton Hewitt will also have to wait until tomorrow morning to see if he will progress into the third round.
The Australian was unable to put away the determined Korean Hyung-Taik Lee as Lee won the fourth set to level the match at 2-2 as bad light stopped play.
Hewitt won Wimbledon in 2002 and made the semi-final last season, but he struggled to dominate against a Korean ranked 102 in the world.
Hewitt lost a tie-break in the first before charging to a 6-2 victory in the second set and winning the third on a tie-break. Lee would not give in and fought back in the fourth to win the third tie-break of the match and force the match to be completed tomorrow.
