Australian snooker hope Neil Robertson has dumped Welsh Open champion Stephen Lee out of the World Championships with a compelling performance at the Crucible.
In a high-quality game, the talented left-hander held his nerve to win 13-9 with a 102 break.
Lee might have beaten a less inspired opponent after making three century breaks, including a 135 in the fifth frame.
But Robertson consistently nailed long pots to keep his nose ahead of the Englishman and become the first Australian to reach the quarter finals since Eddie Charlton in 1983 when he made his second hundred.
On the other table, Stephen Maguire is struggling against Marco Fu, the Hong Kong player leading 10-4.
Ronnie O'Sullivan said that Maguire would go on to dominate the sport when he won the UK Championship last year, but the Scotsman will need a major turnaround to make the quarter finals.
Fu took the first four frames and the struggling Maguire, a long way from his best, never found a way back into the game.
Earlier in the day, Steve Davis was left on the verge of going out to Shaun Murphy.
Six-time world champion Davis is 11-5 down going into tomorrow's early session, after missing a succession of easy pots.
On the other table, Mark Williams leads Mark Selby 5-3 after a number of closely-contested frames.
