Rio de Janeiro has been chosen as the host city for the 2016 Olympics.
The South American city beat off competition from Madrid in a vote by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Friday.
The committee had started the day with a shortlist of four cities including Chicago and Tokyo.
The American city had been one of the favourites to host the games after London in 2012 but was dramatically eliminated after the first round of voting.
Earlier in the day US president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle both helped make the cause for Chicago to the IOC.
However, their attempts proved to be in vain with the Olympic committee instead choosing to host the games in South America for the very first time.
Brazil will also host the football World Cup in 2014, representing a massive decade of sport for the country.
