Rikki Loney has been announced as the second act voted off the live stage of The X Factor.
Loney and Rachel Adedeji were in the bottom two after a public vote following Saturday night's show.
Adedeji performed an emotional rendition of U2's With Or Without You while Scottish solo artist Loney sang Westlife's Flying Without Wings.
With judge Dannii Minogue choosing to save Adedeji, and Cheryl Cole, mentoring the under-25s male group, unsurprisingly voting for Loney, Simon Cowell had the casting vote with Louis Walsh absent from the panel having attended Stephen Gately's funeral this weekend.
Cowell chose to save Adedeji, meaning Loney follows girl group Kandy Rain in being voted off the 2009 series of the ITV1 show.
With Cole disappointed at one of her contestants being selected to leave the show, the Girls Aloud singer made her feelings clear and said she could not understand how Loney had been voted off while Irish duo John and Edward remained on the programme.
Earlier in the evening, the singer and judge had performed her new single Fight For This Love, tipped to reach the number one spot next weekend.
"It's really going to pain me to have to say this but that was incredible," Cowell commented following Cole's performance.
"That was an incredible routine, great performance and unfortunately you're going to be number one next week."
Cole remarked: "I feel fantastic, I've really enjoyed myself. It's been a bit of a blur, it took me right back to when I started on Popstars the Rivals."
Music legend Whitney Houston also made her first UK television performance in a decade. The multiple Grammy and Oscar winner had earlier mentored this year's X Factor hopefuls.
