Leeds notched up their first win in six matches after a narrow 14-12 victory over Wakefield at Bell Vue in Super League.
The Rhinos, who remain in third but close on the gap on Hull to two points, were led by three goals from forward Kevin Sinfield and tries from hooker Matt Diskin and full back Jordon Tansen.
A defeat for Leeds would have meant their worst run of results for 48 years and they host Warrington next week looking to gain some momentum ahead of the playoffs.
Wakefield, who remain odds on to be relegated with 16 points, had kept themselves in the game with two goals from Jamie Rooney and tries from hooker David March and fullback Tom Saxton.
