Universal Music, out April 13th.
In a nutshell.
Classic, long, soulful, timeless, upbeat
What's it all about?
Just Dusty is a commemorative collection of 26 of some of Dusty Springfield's best known songs, and a few lesser-heard gems, released to celebrate what would have been the star's 70th birthday.
Who's it by?
Held up as one of the best white singers of all time - and called the best white singer ever by Elton John himself - Dusty had 17 chart hits in the six years from 1963 to 1969. She also scooped the NME Award for British Female four years running and features in both the UK and US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
As an example.
"Being good isn't always easy, no matter how hard I try/When he started sweet talking to me, he'd come and tell me everything was alright/He'd kiss and tell me everything was alright." - Son Of A Preacher Man
Likelihood of a trip to the Grammys
Unlikely, the album obviously contains no new material and most of the classics it contains were heaped with awards on their original release back in the swinging 60s.
What the others say
"While certainly not a top roundup of Dusty Springfield's prime '60s output, Just Dusty does offer up a fine mix of relatively obscure ballads and soul-infused sides." - Stephen Cook, All Music Guide.
Fellow crooner Burt Bacharach called Dusty's unmistakeable sound "rare and beautiful".
So is it any good?
Despite most of the tracks being more than 40 years old, Dusty's songs still sound amazing and her voice could blow most modern female artists out of the water. An ideal album for Dusty fans who want to hear all her best work in one place, or for the yet to be converted music fan curious to know what all the fuss is about.
A perfect mix of chilled-out sounds and upbeat numbers ideal for warbling into a hairbrush, Just Dusty really shows the range of Dusty's vocal talents and is a must-have for any fan of 60s pop.
