Mercury, out now.
Who's it by?
At only 22 years old, MacDonald has an impressive story. Since releasing her first (and very successful!) album, This is the Life (2007), when she was merely 19, she has offered support for the brilliant Paul Weller, toured relentlessly throughout the UK and Europe, infiltrated airwaves, and has even won some notable awards. Aside from being a talented musician with an astounding voice, Amy is a humble lady who just loves to perform and have the chance to share her music with a wider audience.
As an example...
"So soon your time will come/Get it while you're still young/May all your dreams come true/For someone like you/ So soon your time will come/Get it while you're still young/So happy for you." - Your Time Will Come
What the others say
"She has the most sensational voice - rich, deep, dark and commanding." - Times
"Macdonald is a breath of fresh air who sings from the heart with not a GaGa-style gimmick in sight." - Real Music Blog
So is it any good?
Without a doubt, this is a woman to be reckoned with. Despite her young age, Macdonald proves herself to be something special, a talent that is bold, refreshing, and will leave you wanting more and more. If it's not her relatable lyrics or the catchy acoustics that accompany them that have you hooked, her voice is something that is simply undeniable. Not only does Macdonald offer polished tunes in recorded format, she is a real treat to see performing live. We are exposed to more depth, more intimacy and more connection to the artist with personal anthems such as An Ordinary Life and Troubled Soul. While all of the songs on this album are gems in their own ways, highlights include just released first single and rock-filled Don't Tell Me That It's Over, to the painstakingly beautiful What Happiness Means to Me. Every song, a triumph; every note played, in tune; every word sung, sincere: You cannot lose with this album.
