RCA Label Group, out now.
In a nutshell...
Mellow, sappy, chill out album
What's it all about?
Let It Go is Will Young's fourth album in which he attempts to slow down the tempo with 13 tracks from his single Changes to If Love Equals Nothing.
Who's it by?
Since winning Pop Idol in 2002 and smashing sales records with his double A-side debut Evergreen/Anything Is Possible - the fastest-selling debut in UK history - Will Young's gone on to win Brits, Ivor Novello awards, be voted the UK's favourite artist of all time, as well as acting on stage and screen and gracing the majority of 2008's summmer festivals.
As an example.
"I just need a break/A little one/To get me up to watch the sun."
Likelihood of a trip to the Grammys
Young fans will rave about this album but the likelihood of it reaching the Grammys is slim. An album for 'me time', not one to be played in rowdy company.
What the others say
"Reflections on his own masculinity and meaning feel heartfelt and that questioning feeling of shipping out, moving on, of anger and resignation towards a lost love, sound free of cloying sentimentality. Nothing here will do anything to lessen the great swathes of public affection that are directed at its protagonist. Will Young is the suitor that every mother secretly hopes for their gay offspring." Paul Flynn, Observer
"This fourth album reunites Young with co-writer Eg White (the pair did the massive Leave Right Now), and combines bland melodies such as on current single Changes with more interesting conflicted moods on Disconnected and Grace. Young's delivery can elevate everyday sentiments into something special - but this born showman seems to be playing it safe." - Arwa Haider, Metro
So is it any good?
Let It Go is a typical Will Young album, the same voice, the same style and the same mellow breaking heart voice. I was frankly a little disappointed - apart from Changes, none of the tracks stick in mind for a while after. For the song to be written with Eg White, who co-wrote Leave Right Now, it's not surprising.
An album for those moments where a good cry and chill out period is desperately needed.

"I believe that your rating is an injustice to this great album, and is insulting to say the least. Perhaps you hear so much dross, that you wouldn't know a good song or singer if they hit you in the face! Have you REALLY LISTENED and not felt emotion of some kind with some of the heartfelt words and beautiful music.......... or are you just trying to appear 'cool'?" - S Smith
