Fascination Records, out December 14th.
What's it all about?
This soundtrack accompanies the film so as expected it includes a list of hits that feature in the film. Fifteen tracks make up the album, with Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding a big feature, along with the St Trinian's 'Banned'.
Who's it by?
The album features a selection of female artists, creating a fun mix for any typical schoolgirl to sing and dance along to.
As an example...
"We can't fake the way we feel/We were born to keep it real/Hockey sticks and balls of steel/We are St Trinians." - St Trinian's Theme, Banned of St Trinian's.
So is it any good?
When first looking at the people featuring on the album it does hold some form of appeal, however once it is played most positive thoughts end. The only songs which offer entertainment and real music are Kiss with a Fist by Florence and the Machine and, surprisingly, Sarah Harding's Make it Easy. In addition, Keep Your Head Up by Girls Can't Catch is very poppy, but admittedly pretty catchy.
Obviously the album isn't looking to appeal to a mass market and offer super-talented music so in that sense it achieves what it wants in targeting young and likely female schoolchildren.
This album is ideal for any young female family members as a Christmas present, particularly if they're already fans of the previous St Trinian's film. Its cheesy, sickly and cringey songs will probably keep quite a few schoolgirls across the country entertained for hours as they plan out dance routines to their favourite songs, but anybody else attempting a listen is likely to switch off after minutes of turning the album on. Even younger music-lovers, I'd imagine, might soon get bored with the samey listening tracks and cheesy lyrics.
As a Kaiser Chiefs fan, I'm probably not the best person to listen to a Girls Aloud cover of I Predict A Riot (track 14 of the soundtrack) and needless to say I was as unimpressed to say the least with it as expected.
Overall a perfect choice for a very young schoolgirl or fans of the St Trinian's films, but otherwise featured song title You're a Disaster is more symbolic of this CD's quality than later single 'We Got the Beat.
