UMTV, out now.
What's it all about?
The latest instalment in the Floorfillers series. This two disc album contains 42 tracks, offering a mix of some of the most popular pop and dance hits of this year.
Who's it by?
Various artists feature on this album, many of which have enjoyed huge success this year,
with number one songs listed by stars such as Taio Cruz and Calvin Harris.
As an example...
"Evacuate the dancefloor/I'm infected by the sound/Stop this beat is killing me/Hey mister DJ let the music take me underground." - Cascada: Evacuate the Dancefloor
What the others say
"Floorfillers 2010 is the perfect stocking filler for the tweenies in your household... Slipping neatly into the no-man's-land between the primary school disco Now That's What I Call series and the blue WKD... Ministry of Sound albums... there's no effort made to mix the tracks into a continual dancefloor filling readymade DJ se.t" Steve Burnett, The Music Fix.
"If you want to guarantee that your guests are on their feet and dancing then this is the only compilation you need." - Pip, Entertainment Focus
So is it any good?
The album contains a host of catchy songs which would act as an ideal warm up to a night out - a perfect CD to stick on before that night out with the girls or your weekend clubbing with friends. There are some great tracks which do make you want to dance and would - as the album name suggests - fill the dancefloor. However some songs have been remixed to a slower less upbeat version, which seems an odd choice given the style of the album.
Due to the 'poppy' nature of the songs on the two discs, it should appeal to a range of ages and may well be a popular purchase for families ready for Christmas parties, as well as those wanting to kick start their nights out with some feel-good tunes. Although the album is showcasing some of the biggest tracks this year it might have been nice to have some more recent 2009 hits for this '2010' album. This in fact could let this edition of the series down, when the public compare it to other similar offerings on the market, which contain the latest hits from these popular singers and groups and not songs that are months old now.
Overall, a good mix of pop-tinged dance tunes and a fun album, but you may well find you already have most of these tracks and aren't really getting anything new.
7/10
