Les Reed, previously number two to the recently-sacked Iain Dowie, has been confirmed as the new Charlton head coach by the club's board.
Reed is promoted to the top job on a permanent basis with former development coach Mark Robson elevated to be his assistant.
The news comes just a matter of days after Dowie was shown the door at the south-east London outfit after just 12 league games at the helm.
With the club now rooted to the foot of the Premiership with just two wins and eight points to their name, the club's chief executive Peter Varney will be hoping that recruiting from within can turn the situation around quickly.
"Les Reed and Mark Robson will step up and run the team. We are probably looking for a third person to come in and help them. We feel we need stability more than ever," he told Sky Sports.
"They are both Charlton people and have a very strong Charlton pedigree. We are very, very confident that they will start to turn this club around."
But the Addicks chief admitted that ending Dowie's short stay at the club, after previous incumbent Alan Curbishley had been given 15 years in the job, had not been an easy thing to do.
"Iain was a popular character at the club and we're sad and disappointed. He didn't take the news very well but you wouldn't expect him to," Varney continued.
"But we had to take the personal from the business. We had to stand back and take a tough decision. Now we have got to pull together."
