Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has admitted he has turned to Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones in order to solve his search for a new striker.
Redknapp has been linked with a number of strikers during the transfer window. The Spurs boss has had a bid turned down for Craig Bellamy and failed to bring Inter Milan forward Adriano to the club.
He is now hoping to sign the 24-year-old Jones, although Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia has already said the striker is not for sale.
Speaking after the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, Redknapp said: "We have made an enquiry for Jones. I have no idea how far the chairman has got with it or even whether Sunderland want to do a deal."
Tottenham were knocked out of the cup today despite taking the lead inside five minutes through Roman Pavlyuchenko. United won the game thanks to a Paul Scholes strike and a goal from former Spurs forward Dimitar Berbatov.
Redknapp insisted afterwards that he was happy with the way his team performed and felt they were slightly unlucky not to earn a replay.
"I thought we did well. It is tough to come here - you have to be careful, if you open up you can get beaten by four, five or six goals," he said.
"We started well, but a bad two-minute spell cost us. In the second half neither keeper had an awful lot to do. But I thought we were always in the game and I could see us nicking a goal and earning a replay."
