Steve Coppell's Reading will be in the Premiership next season after they secured a 1-1 draw against Leicester City today.
The Royals have been flying high in the Championship for most of this campaign and they secured their spot in the top flight as a result of Watford's defeat at home to Millwall and Leeds' failure to overcome Stoke.
Scenes of unbridled joy from Reading's visiting fans at the Walkers Stadium greeted the news of their promotion and the Berkshire team now sit 14 points clear of second-placed Sheffield United.
The Blades put their recent troubles behind them with a 3-0 win over struggling Southampton and with Watford going down 2-0 at Vicarage Road and Leeds drawing 0-0 they are now six points clear of the play-off positions.
Reading's success came after Kevin Doyle's 84th minute goal equalised Ian Hulme's first-half opener and their promotion is the earliest a team has secured their place in the top flight since the second world war.
