Claudio Ranieri has resigned from his role as manager of Italian club Parma in a move apparently confirming speculation that he will take up the reins at Manchester City.
The former Chelsea boss has given broad hints that he was set for a return to the Premiership and the Eastlands hotseat recently vacated by Stuart Pearce now seems his inevitable destination.
"Claudio Ranieri has informed the club of his intention to leave his role as first-team coach," a Parma statement read.
"The club would like to thank him for the precious work he carried out, which resulted in keeping Parma in Serie A. We wish him success for the future."
Appointed after a dismal spell at Spanish side Valencia, Ranieri oversaw a revival in Parma's fortunes as they clambered out of the relegation zone and into a final Serie A position of 12th.
It is thought that the Italian's recruitment by City may depend on a successful takeover by former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The club are desperately seeking fresh investment and Shinawatra, who previously attempted to buy Liverpool, could provide the salary and transfer funds necessary to lure Ranieri to the club.
