Rangers produced the shock result of the night in the Champions League as they thumped reigning French champions and league leaders Lyon 3-0 at the Stade Gerland.
Lee McCulloch opened the scoring for the Gers with a well-placed header on 23 minutes, and, although Juninho Pernambucano struck the woodwork twice later on in the game, it was the visitors who netted after the break.
Daniel Cousin doubled the lead on 48 minutes with a smart turn and finish and DaMarcus Beasley plunged the home support into further despair five minutes later.
The American striker charged beyond the flimsy Lyon defence and onto a long ball from Cousin before slotting home a measured finish.
In group E's other game Ronaldinho returned to the Barcelona side as captain after an absence that set rumours flying about a possible exit from the Nou Camp.
The Brazilian playmaker duly led his team to a 2-0 win away to Stuttgart through goals from Carlos Puyol and Lionel Messi.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck two first-half goals to send Inter Milan to a 2-0 home win over PSV while group G rivals Fenerbache took a point from their visit to CSKA Moscow after a 2-2 draw.
Sporting picked up their first points of the group stage with a 2-1 win away to Dynamo Kiev with defender Anderson Polga striking the winner just before the break.
Sevilla bounced back from their 3-0 loss to Arsenal in their opening group game with a 4-2 win over Slavia Prague set in motion by a goal from former West Ham and Tottenam striker Freddi Kanoute.
