Struggling Derby County are poised to sign former French international Laurent Robert.
The Rams are expected to sign the ex-Newcastle United winger on a contract until the end of the season.
Robert has been training with Derby this week after being released by Spanish club Levante.
Rams boss Paul Jewell said he has been impressed by the 32-year-old.
"He's done exceptionally well in training, and hopefully he will be a Derby player on Tuesday," Jewell said.
"I would think he will be on a short-term contract, but I don't want to say too much until it's done and dusted."
Robert's last spell in the Premier League was a loan spell at Portsmouth in 2005. He previously spent five years at the Magpies, scoring 22 goals in 110 league starts.
The Frenchman will become Jewell's third signing following the capture of Danny Mills on loan and Argentine striker Emanuel Villa for £2 million.
Derby have also been linked with Tottenham midfielder Hossam Ghaly in the transfer window.
The Rams currently languish at the bottom of the Premier League with seven points from 21 matches.
Jewell's side face an FA Cup third round replay at Hillsborough on January 15th after a 2-2 draw today against Sheffield Wednesday.
